Synthetic Benchmarks: Sandra 2010c

So the SU3500 isn’t much faster than the Atom at web browsing. Is there anywhere where the Core 2 Solo is significantly faster than the Atom N270?  SiSoft’s Sandra has been a nice easy way to measure the theoretical performance of a computer’s components.

On these highly optimized synthetic tests the Core 2 Solo has a good lead over the N270 in basic number crunching ability. The original Pentium-derived in-order Atom core just isn’t designed to do x87 floating point math quickly.

The SU3500 supports SSE4.1 while the N270 does not. The Atom doesn’t lag much until we come to SSE2 floating point performance. Again floating point performance is not the Atom’s strong suit, but even integer performance lags the slower clocked Core 2.
